SEMH Teaching Assistant – Worcester – ASAP

A forward thinking Short Stay School in Worcester are urgently seeking a full time nurturing and resilient Teaching Assistant to start ASAP for an ongoing role. You will be supporting KS3/KS4 pupils across the whole school. The Headteacher is keen for the successful candidate to have previous experience of working with pupils with behavioural issues and they know how to manage behaviour in a positive and effective manner.

Your new role:
You will be supporting the class teacher to ensure pupils access their learning in a positive learning environment, helping them to achieve their true potential.  A substantial number of students have Special Educational Needs which has hindered their access to learning in the past. In particular a significant  majority  start  this School have not been ready to learn due to their Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Pupils will struggle to regulate their behaviour and we need you to support them to learn how to manage themselves so they are ready to leave the School and cope in the world outside.

The ideal candidate:
** Experience of supporting pupils in a SEN School, Residential School, Short Stay School and/or Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
** Knowledge and experience on Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH)
** Excellent behaviour management skills
** Calming mannerisms in challenging situations
** Driven to motivate pupils and increase participation
** The ability to grow individual personal development
** Be caring, patient and have good communication skills
** Be self-reflective, have a willingness to learn and demonstrate initiative

SEMH Teaching Assistant requirements:
**Experience of working in a similar role (a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification would be advantageous but not essential)
** Are eligible to work in the UK
** Possesses an enhanced DBS certificate that is registered on the Update Service or be willing to apply for a new one
