SEN Teaching Assistant – Berkeley, Gloucestershire – September

Salary: £17,242.62 – £19,922.82 (FTE £20,072.00 – £23,192.00)
Hours: 40hrs per week for full time – flexible part time shifts/hours available – Term time only

A Special Needs School in Berkeley, Gloucestershire is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant, starting September on an ongoing basis. This pioneering and bespoke school provides specialist education for children and young people aged 11-16 year olds with SEMH needs. Main duties:
* To establish a positive supportive relationship with pupils so they feel safe and can excel in all areas of their learning, development and well-being
* To promote and encourage independence in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour
* Demonstrate a proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-professional team, contributing to providing high quality personalised learning activities and experiences
*Under the guidance of a more senior TA or a Teacher, ensure all documentation is completed correctly for records of learning, incidents, health, behaviour etc. as necessary

The ideal candidate:
* Experience working with children in the last 5 years including those identified with special needs – particularly those identified with ASD and SEMH
* Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree around childcare is admirable but not essential
* Experience of assisting with the development and implementation of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP)
* Experience of using communication aids such as British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS is advantageous
* Knowledge of the National Curriculum and/or educational methods such as SPELL and TEACCH is desirable
* Have the ability to effectively manage behaviour
* Team Teach, MAPA or equivalent trained is admirable but not essential
* To be proactive, adaptable and reliable
* Right to work in the UK
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service. Candidates without an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will have to apply for a new one
