SEN Teaching Assistant – Erdington – September

An exceptional and supportive Special Needs School in Erdington is seeking a nurturing and resilient Teaching Assistant for a full time role starting September for an ongoing role, this has the potential to become a permanent contract. You will be expected to support pupils on a whole class, small group or 1:1 basis. Pupils have additional difficulties including sensory impairment, learning difficulties, communication difficulties or complex medical conditions.

The role includes classroom support, mentoring, pastoral care and assisting with the physical care of pupils as and when required.  You should have excellent communication and written skills with high expectations of learning and behaviour.

The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated Special Needs School caters for 229 pupils aged 2-25 years, with separate Primary and Secondary Departments. They have outstanding purpose built facilities and highly trained, enthusiastic and committed staff. This combination enables them to provide the specialised individual programmes required by their pupils.

Main duties:
* You will support the class teacher with delivery of lessons
* You will follow the direction of the class teacher and support pupils either on a 1:1 or small group basis to support their learning
* You will be providing bespoke support to pupils with a wide range of abilities and needs, tailoring activities to ensure they engage with and complete tasks
* You will need to complete relevant administration tasks

The ideal candidate:
** Experience working with children in the last 5 years including those identified with special needs
** Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree around childcare is admirable
** Demonstrate positive behaviour management
** Good communication and organisation skills
** Right to work in the UK
** Enhanced DBS on the Update Service. Candidates without an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will have to apply for a new one
