Swimming Instructor and SEN Teaching Assistant – Sheldon – September

An exceptional and supportive Special Needs School in Sheldon is seeking a nurturing and resilient Swimming Instructor for a full time role starting September for an ongoing role. You will be expected to support pupils on a whole class, small group or 1:1 basis as a Teaching assistant but mainly teaching Swimming lessons. Pupils have additional difficulties including sensory impairment, autism, learning difficulties, communication difficulties or complex medical conditions.

The role includes classroom support, Swimming lessons, mentoring, pastoral care and assisting with the physical care of pupils as and when required. You should have excellent communication and written skills with high expectations of learning and behaviour.

Main duties:

* You will support the class teacher with the delivery of lessons
*Teaching Swimming lessons to SEN students
* You will follow the direction of the class teacher and support pupils either on a 1:1 or small group basis to support their learning
* You will be providing bespoke support to pupils with a wide range of abilities and needs, tailoring activities to ensure they engage with and complete tasks
* You will need to complete relevant administration tasks

The ideal candidate:

** Experience working with children in the last 5 years including those identified with special needs
**Proven experience working as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
**Level 1 and Level 2 teaching qualifications awarded by Swim England or the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA)
**First aid
**Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules.
**Strong swimming abilities.
** Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree around childcare is admirable
** Demonstrate positive behaviour management
** Good communication and organisation skills
** Right to work in the UK
** Enhanced DBS on the Update Service. Candidates without an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will have to apply for a new one
