1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Down’s Syndrome)

Location: Caerphilly

Full time, long term

September start

£70/day

Twenty 4 Seven Education is delighted to be working alongside a friendly and successful infant school located in Caerphilly. They are looking for a compassionate and hard working teaching assistant to work one-to-one with a student with Down’s Syndrome in foundation phase.

The School 

This school is led by enthusiastic staff who create a fun and stimulating learning environment for all of its students. They value their strong relationships with families and believe that this brings about the most successful outcomes for young learners. The setting includes a forest school and there are school pets for the children (and staff) to enjoy looking after!

The Role

This vacancy is for a teaching assistant who will work on a one-to-one basis with a student in foundation phase who has Down’s Syndrome.

As a one-to-one SEN TA, you will:

Work 1:1 with an SEN pupil to help them to access the curriculum and make progress, be it academic, personal or social
Get to know the specific pupil you are assigned to, learn about their needs and how they learn so that you can support them in the best way possible
Prepare resources to support your pupil’s learning
Be prepared to have conversations with teachers, SENCO or parents about your pupil’s progress and how to support them
Sometimes work with small groups of pupils
In the case of your pupil’s absence, be prepared to support the class teacher in other ways or with other students

The candidate:

You must be patient, compassionate and approachable
You must have a desire to make a difference to the progress- academic, social and/or personal- of pupils with SEN
Knowledge of the additional needs that a child with Down’s Syndrome may have, and how to support them, is key
A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable, preferably with specific SEND knowledge
You should have a successful track record of working with pupils of a similar age range
Classroom-based experience is useful
