A Primary School we work with in Smethwick invites you to embark on a rewarding journey as a Full-Time Teaching Assistant, starting this September. Join our dedicated team, working in the mornings with a pupil who has Speech and Language needs and in the afternoons with a pupil who has Autism.
As a Full-Time Teaching Assistant, your mornings will be dedicated to supporting a pupil with Speech and Language needs. You will work closely with our Speech and Language Therapist to implement tailored strategies that enhance their communication skills and confidence.
In the afternoons, you will have the opportunity to work with a pupil who has Autism, fostering a supportive and structured environment that promotes their individual growth and development. Your patience, empathy, and understanding will be key in building a strong rapport and providing personalized support.
SEN EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL.
Typical duties of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant:
Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes
Supervise and support pupils in access of learning
Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans and Personal Care programmes.
Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems etc.
Desirable skills –
A good standard of general education (ie. NVQ level 2 or equivalent)
Good numeracy and literacy skills – GCSE Maths and English
Previous experience of working with young people
Basic understanding of child development and learning
Ability to use basic technology
Ability to relate well to children and adults and respond appropriately
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
Feel confident working 1:1 with a child under the guidance of their teacher
