Teaching Assistant – Smethwick – ASAP

Twenty4seven Education are working on behalf of a school in Smethwick who are seeking to appoint a 1-1 SEND Teaching Assistant. For this role you will be expected to work on a 1-1 basis with a child in reception. You will be expected to work with this pupil, in and out of the classroom with support from the class teacher and SENCO.

This role is starting ASAP and will be for the full academic year. The working times are Monday – Friday, 8.20am-3.30pm. Term time only. Successful candidates must have experience working with children with additional needs, more specifically Autism.

Typical duties of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes
Supervise and support pupils in access of learning
Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans and Personal Care programmes.
Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems etc.
Desirable skills –

A good standard of general education (ie. NVQ level 2 or equivalent)
Good numeracy and literacy skills – GCSE Maths and English
Previous experience of working with young people
Basic understanding of child development and learning
Ability to use basic technology
Ability to relate well to children and adults and respond appropriately
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
Feel confident working 1:1 with a child under the guidance of their teacher
