DT Teacher (Textiles and Food Tech) – Meriden – ASAP

Job Description:

A SEN School in Meriden is looking for a dedicated Design Technology Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis, starting in January. You must be experienced and able to teach Art & Design AND Food Tech.

If you are only able to teach 1 of these subjects, the role will be part time 2 – 2.5 days per week.

You will be responsible for teaching groups of children with special educational needs, meaning that you must be able to adjust your teaching methods and the existing curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. It is important that you will help and inspire the children to help them reach their true academic potential!

The School:

This ‘Good’ Ofsted rated SEN School located in Meriden caters for students aged 11-19 with high levels of anxiety associated with autism spectrum disorder and/or early trauma. Their aim is to re-engage pupils in the life and routines of school and develop well-adjusted and skilled young people who can contribute positively to society and lead productive and purposeful lives. Through a broad, balanced and rich secondary school curriculum; one that is highly personalised and closely tailored to each pupils’ level of ability, interest and aspirations, they will meet the needs of the most vulnerable young people.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

·        PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training is essential for this role

·        Experience teaching Food Tech and/or Art and Design is essential

·        Minimum 1 years’ experience working with children and young people in the last 5 years including those identified with special needs – particularly those identified with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and Trauma

·        Experience of adhering and contributing to Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP), Annual Reviews and Behaviour Support Plans

·        Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum

·        Experience of using communication aids such as British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS is advantageous but not essential

·        Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate

·        Can effectively manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies

·        The ability to tailor their skills to meet the needs of each individual child

·        Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support
