Learning and Behaviour Mentor – Kidderminster

An Alternative Provision School in Kidderminster are seeking a Learning and Behaviour Mentor for a full time role starting ASAP on a permanent basis. You will be expected to support individual pupils or small groups of pupils across the secondary key stages, who need additional help to achieve their academic potential. Strong behaviour management is essential.

The School:

Based in Kidderminster, the school provides high quality education for pupils between the ages of 11-17, to re-engage some of the most vulnerable and disillusioned learners.

The school is an Alternative Provision School that opened in September 2013 and benefits from being housed in a purpose built site. They have the capacity for 90 pupils aged 11-17, who for a wide variety of reasons have disengaged or experienced difficulties in mainstream education.

They have a highly trained, compassionate and committed group of staff and governors who work in unison to positively impact on students’ self-esteem, academic potential and post 16 destinations.

This is not one size fits all school and the students reap the rewards of innovative and bespoke curriculum by using Outdoor Education, delivering highly engaging and relevant lessons, they offer vocational, therapeutic and academic pathways according to need. They are committed to challenging students and developing their resilience, their empathy with others and their social and cultural awareness.

Main duties:

* You will support the class teacher with delivery of lessons

* You will follow the direction of the class teacher and support pupils either on a 1:1 or small group basis to support their learning

* You will be providing bespoke support to pupils with a wide range of abilities and needs, tailoring activities to ensure they engage with and complete tasks

* Lead academic interventions with pupils

* Be committed to preventative approaches to working with pupils with behaviour difficulties and positive strategies for managing and adapting challenging behaviour

* You will need to complete relevant administration tasks

The ideal candidate:

** Experience working with children in the last 5 years including those identified with special needs

** Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree around childcare is admirable but not essential

** Demonstrate positive behaviour management

** Team Teach certification is advantageous

** Good communication and organisation skills

** Right to work in the UK

** Enhanced DBS on the Update Service. Candidates without an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will have to apply for a new one
