Job Description

A new role has become available at a lovely primary school we work with in Smethwick. For this role we are looking for someone who has experience working with children with additional needs. This is a 1-1 position where you will required to work with a pupil who has autism.

You will have support from the class teacher and the SENCO. You will be given activities and tasks to do with the pupil which will be in and out of the classroom.

SEN EXPEREINCE IS ESSENTIAL.

Typical duties of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes
Supervise and support pupils in access of learning
Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans and Personal Care programmes.
Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems etc.
Desirable skills –

A good standard of general education (ie. NVQ level 2 or equivalent)
Good numeracy and literacy skills – GCSE Maths and English
Previous experience of working with young people
Basic understanding of child development and learning
Ability to use basic technology
Ability to relate well to children and adults and respond appropriately
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
Feel confident working 1:1 with a child under the guidance of their teacher
